Rewiring the Mind: Nikita May on Healing, Neuroplasticity, and Resilience

When life hands us loss, upheaval, or unexpected change, we face the choice of staying stuck in the pain or stepping into healing. For doula, hypnotherapist and coach, Nikita May, that choice has defined her journey.

In our conversation, Nikita shared how her early passion for supporting families through the vulnerable postpartum period evolved into a broader mission of helping people heal, rewire their minds, and restore connection with themselves and others.

She spoke candidly about the challenges of mental health during life transitions, the importance of community, and the quiet but powerful role of non-birthing partners in postpartum well-being. Nikita also opened up about losing loved ones, navigating trauma, and realizing that resilience is built not on avoiding emotions, but on learning to feel and move through them.

Understanding our neuroplasticity, or the brain’s ability to rewire itself, is essential for healing and finally letting go. Nikita explained how tools like hypnotherapy, tapping, journaling, and meditation help her clients shift patterns and rewrite the stories they’ve been carrying, often since childhood. She also emphasized the role of timeline therapy in releasing negative emotions and limiting beliefs rooted in early experiences. By revisiting and reframing these pivotal moments, clients can let go of the emotional “bags” they’ve been carrying and step into a new narrative of strength and self-compassion.

One of my key take-aways is that healing isn’t linear. It’s also not a circle we repeat endlessly, but a spiral we grow through, with each turn giving us a chance to rise higher.
